Palazzo Ruzzini

Palazzo Ruzzini is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere as the last building on the left side of the Grand Canal . The neighboring building Fondaco dei Tedeschi already belongs to the Sestiere San Marco . On the other side, the Casa Perducci is adjacent to the palace located near the Rialto Bridge .

history

The palace is not very old; it was built at the end of the 19th century on the site where the Fondaco dei Persiani previously stood, a derelict building that was demolished in 1830.

description

The neo-Renaissance facade is extremely schematic and characterized by the contrast between the colors of the building blocks on the upper floors and that of the Istrian limestone that frames the window openings. It shows two quadruple windows in the middle, framed by single windows. The building has five floors. Notable elements are the portal to the water and the three small triple windows on the ground floor. The family's coat of arms, which is held by an angel above the portal, dates from the second half of the 14th century. The rectangular heraldic shield on the side facade is contemporary, whereas the one on the mezzanine level under the roof is a simple imitation.
