Palazzo da Lezze , also Ca 'Lezze , is a Baroque palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the Cannaregio sestiere on the Fondamenta de la Misericordia with a view of the Rio de la Misericordia between the Scuola Nuova della Misericordia and the Calle Largo Lezze .

history

The main part of the palace was given to Giovanni da Lezze di Andrea (1554-1625), who was procurator of San Marco from 1611 to 1617 . The architect of the facade, created between 1645 and 1670, is said to be mainly Baldassare Longhena , who was hired in 1654. Longhena also designed the family villa in San Biagio . In 1829 it was bought by the Antonelli family , who ran a printing company there until the end of the 19th century. Today the palace is divided into individual apartments.

description

The ground floor of the four-storey building is designed as a basement , the two main floors have many arched windows with protruding, balustraded balconies , similar to the Ca 'Pesaro . The mezzanine under the roof has square windows.

In the city guide of Sansovino and Martinioni from 1663 the palace is described as follows:

“(...) large in scope, with spacious parade rooms, a facade heavily decorated with marble with beautiful stone carvings, especially graceful and tasteful are the women's heads that are attached to the keystones of the windows and arches. The inner courtyard: Various half-statues are attached to marble foundations, busts and heads that were busily sculpted by Francesco Cavrioli. "

A small casino that served as a garden entrance on the Rio de la Sensa opposite the Scuola Vecchia della Misericordia , adjacent to the Scuola Nuova della Misericordia, was also designed by Longhena; it was recently remodeled and given modern interiors.

The palace interiors once had ceilings frescoed by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and an art collection. The pieces were either sold during the 18th century, or destroyed or stolen after the fall of the Republic of Venice .
