Palazzo della Ragione of the Pomposa Abbey

The Palazzo della Ragione is located in the municipality of Codigoro in the Italian province of Ferrara . In the west it adjoins the Pomposa Abbey . The building was erected in the middle of the 11th century. It was used by the abbot of the monastery to exercise secular justice.

The size of the building was intended to express the feudal power of the abbey. The show facade has two loggias . The one on the ground floor is the older one, it has 16 arched arcades with a brick arch in the middle. On the upper floor, the loggia consists of 25 evenly shaped arches. These are supported by small columns that originally come from another building.

The walls, especially on the ground floor, show the colors of different brick tiles and the typical use of majolica plates .
