Pallacanestro Milano 1958 (full name: Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica Pallacanestro Milano 1958 ) is an Italian basketball club from Milan .

history

The official founding date of the club is July 1, 1957, although the team had already competed with other teams in regional championships from 1955, but was not yet part of a registered club. The year 1958 is given in the club name because the sporting upswing began in this year in connection with the entry into professional basketball.

The top division in Italy, Serie A , reached Pallacanestro Milano in 1964. The first season was completed on a place in the secured midfield, just like the following season. In 1967 and 1970 the team finished the season in third place and thus established itself in the top group. In this strong decade between 1967 and 1978, however, it was not enough to win the Italian championship, which was mainly due to the triumphant basketball players from Pallacanestro Varese , who dominated Serie A. Behind them, Pallacanestro Milano often fought tightly with Pallacanestro Varese or local rival Olimpia for the other top positions.

In the 1972/73 season, the team reached the semi-finals of the European Cup Winners' Cup , after they had played in this competition in 1968, but were eliminated early. In the 1973 semifinals, they failed very close to the Yugoslav representative KK Jugoplastika Split . The first leg clearly went to Split with 81:96. In the second leg at home in Milan, 15 points should have been made up, which the team did not manage. The 82:70 victory was not enough for the final, three points were missing.

In the national league, the club fell out of the top 5 in the following years, but was fourth again in 1978. But in the 1979/80 season Pallacanestro Milano was only 13th and was relegated to the second-rate Serie B. The club could no longer keep up with the developments of the other teams and basketball in general and eventually disappeared into the lowlands of Italian basketball.

In total, the club played 17 seasons in Serie A. Twice he came third and three times fourth.

The team is currently playing in the seventh-class Serie C regional .
