The Pallati i Kongreseve ( Albanian for Congress Palace; actually "Palace of Congresses") is the venue for various conferences, festivals, exhibitions, ceremonies, fairs and concerts in Tirana , the capital of Albania . The event building in postmodern style is located east of the central boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombit in the immediate vicinity of the university and the Qemal Stafa stadium .
history
The Congress Palace was built between 1982 and 1986 at the time of the communist dictatorship under Enver Hoxha based on a design by the Albanian architect Klement Kolaneci . The building served mainly as a local congress and conference center for the Party of Labor of Albania until the democratic change in 1990/91 . Since then, the Pallati i Kongreseve has been used for a variety of events such as festivals, exhibitions and concerts.
In 2012, the government-owned building was transferred to the city of Tirana.
Construction data
The building has a rectangular plan with a dome in the middle. The corners are cut off. The system has a height of 18 to 23 meters, a width of around 70 meters and a length of 95 meters. The floor area is thus around 6650 square meters.
The main hall has an audience capacity of around 2100 people. There are also three smaller halls for 150, 280 and 300 people.
Events
Today, the Congress Palace in Tirana is best known as the venue for the national music festival Festivali i Këngës , which has been held there since 1989. Kënga Magjike is another major singing competition that is held at this location.
