Palmatius was supposedly a Roman politician from Trier who was executed as a martyr and venerated as a saint .

Life

Palmatius is said to have been a Roman senator and consul , but there is no direct (non-Christian) evidence for this. He took part in the uprising of the Theban Legion near Xanten . When they were punished, he was persecuted along with other secret Christians in the Roman army and executed as a martyr.

Today, Palmatius is venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church . It is May 10 dedicated.

In Marburg an altarpiece is dedicated to him, on which he is depicted together with Madonna , the Christ Child and Saint Wenceslas . The Palmatiusstraße in Trier is named after Palmatius .
