The Palmer Inlet is an approximately 11 km long, fjord-like and ice-filled inlet on the Black Coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . The bay lies between Cape Bryant and Cape Musselman . It is essentially rectangular in shape and framed by steep cliffs .
The bay was discovered in 1940 by scientists from the East Base of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) during explorations on land and by air. It is named after Robert Palmer (1916–2003), assistant meteorologist on East Base .
