Paltul Rinpoche (* 1965 in Kham ) is a Tibetan clergyman and doctor.

Life

Paltul Rinpoche was born as the third of four children in 1965 in Kham (Eastern Tibet). His parents were simple nomads from the Tibetan highlands. At the age of twenty he entered the Palkey Lachen Monastery, a monastery of the Sakya School. During a pilgrimage he got to know the Palpung Retreat Center (founded by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, one of the grand masters of 19th century Tibet) and became a student of Yonten Phuntsok, a Tibetan doctor and student of Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye. After completing a five-year apprenticeship and several years as a “doctor in internship” and assistant to Yonten Phuntsok, Rinpoche finally returned to his home village, got married and settled down at home.

In the early 1990s he was found by a delegation from the Pal Demo Tashi Chöling Monastery in Nangchen and recognized as the reincarnation of the fourth Pora Tulku Rinpoche. The 12th Tai Situ Rinpoche had given the information about his whereabouts in a prophecy when asked. He was installed as the fifth Pora Tulku Rinpoche and the rightful head of the Pal Demo Tashi Choling monastery. He also received his new name Paltul Rinpoche from the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje .

In 1993 he fled to Nepal and completed three-year retreats in Pullahari , among others with Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen. In 1999 he moved to New York City , where he has since lived as a practicing Tibetan doctor and meditation master with his wife and three daughters.

In 2003, under his patronage, the “Friends of Tibetan Healing Arts, Hamburg eV (Karma Woesel Doe-joe Ling)” was founded in Hamburg, which organizes Rinpoche's visits to Germany.

Paltul Rinpoche received a variety of transmissions and empowerments from 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje, Sakya Trizin , Thrangu Rinpoche , Palden Khentse Öser and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyatso, and continues an uninterrupted lineage in Tibetan medicine. His status and his competencies are certified by the 12th Tai Situ Rinpoche as well as by the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Urgyen Trinley Dorje, which by Western standards corresponds roughly to the rank of professor.
