Pampered Menial is the debut album by American progressive rock band Pavlov's Dog . It was released in 1975 on ABC Records and Columbia Records .
Creation and publication
After the first recordings were made in 1973, but these were not published, some of the material was later used for Pampered Menial . Shortly after the release, the band switched from ABC Records to Columbia Records, so that the album was put on by two record companies at the same time. Soon after Pampered Menial , with the departure of Hamilton and Carver, the original line-up began to fall apart.

Pavlov's Dogs debut album is mostly assigned to progressive rock. The album is song-oriented, the compositions melodic and atmospheric. The arrangements are varied and full of ideas with symphonic and folk influences. David Surkamp's vocals are unusually high-pitched.
reception
David Surkamp's high vocals often gave rise to criticism, for example because he was too shrill or sounded like a woman. On the other hand, the varied and atmospheric compositions of the album are praised. Franco Cappelletti from Babyblauen Seiten considers Pampered Menial to be “unique”; it loses "nothing of its fascination after countless listening sessions". The eclipsed magazine included the album in its list of the 150 most important prog albums.
