Panayot Wolov

Panayot Wolow (* 1850 in Shumen ; † May 26, 1876 near Byala ) was a Bulgarian freedom fighter. He was one of the leaders of the April uprising of 1876.

Commemoration

The house in Shumen where Volov grew up was restored in 1966 and turned into a museum. There is also a stadium in his hometown that bears his name and is used by the football club FK Shumen 2010 . In Sofia and other cities in Bulgaria, streets were named after Volov. He is also the namesake of Volov Peak , a mountain in Graham Land in Antarctica.
