The Panay ( eng .: Panay River ) is a river in the province of Capiz in the Philippines . It rises in the Nacuron Mountains, the western part of the Central Panay Mountains , near the border with the Aklan Province . The Panay has a length of 152 km and a water catchment area of 1843 km².
From its source, in the municipality of Jamindan , the Panay flows in a north-easterly direction in a wide river valley and unites with its most important tributaries, the Badbaran, the Mambusao and the Maayon. At its confluence, the Panay changes its direction of flow from northeast to north, and a few kilometers later divides into the lower reaches of the Panay and the arm of the river known as Pontevedra. The Pontevedra flows northeast and flows into Palongpong Bay, south of Pilar Bay . The Pontevedra is the arm of the river with more water, as the lower reaches of the Panay are heavily affected by sedimentation. The lower reaches of the Panay flows into the Sibuyan Sea west of Roxas City .
