Pandharpur is a city in the state of Maharashtra in western India . It is part of the Solapur district . Pandharpur is administered as a Municipal Council and is divided into 33 wards (constituencies). It is 357 kilometers from Pandharpur to Mumbai .

The city is an important sacred place in Maharashtra and is called South Kashi. It is famous a temple in honor of the god Vithoba on the bank of the Bhima river .

Demographics

The city's population is 98,923 according to the 2011 census. Pandharpur has a gender ratio of 953 women per 1000 men and thus a male surplus typical for India. The literacy rate was 86.7% in 2011. Almost 89.6% of the population are Hindus , approx. 7.3% are Muslims , approx. 1.5% are Jainas , approx. 1.2% are Buddhists , 0 , 2% are Christians and approx. 0.5% belong to other or no religions. 11.3% of the population are children under six years of age.
