The Pandschir Valley (also called Panjsher or Painshir, Dari :پنجشير, DMG Panǧšīr , 'five lions') is a valley in north-central Afghanistan , 150 km north of Kabul , in the Hindu Kush region.
Through the Panjshir Valley, the river flows Panjshir Province . The Pandschir Valley has more than 140,000 inhabitants, mostly Tajiks . Therefore only Dari is mainly spoken in Punjir. In April 2004, the Punjjir Valley became the center of the Punjjir Province . It is also the birthplace of the Afghan national hero Ahmad Shah Massoud .
