The Punjjir is a left tributary of the Kabul River in eastern Afghanistan .
geography
In the Punschir Province, the southwest flowing river formed the Pandschir Valley . It is perhaps 500 m wide and cut several hundred meters into the surrounding mountains of the Hindu Kush.
Coming from altitudes around 1700 m to over 3000 m from the north of the Punjjir province, the river flows out of the mountains, where at the exit of the Pandschir valley there is a mountain over 4000 m high. After it has left the Punschir province, it flows east past the provincial capital Tscharikar through the fertile Kapisa plain (see also: Anbam ) to the south. This is where the Ghorband River flows in from the west . The Punjjir turns east about 20 km. After about 30 km of Panjshir Province turns south and finally ends after 30 km, about 40 km north-east of Kabul , in the river Kabul . There is the Sarobi dam, which dams both rivers and is used to generate energy. The Punjjir forms the border between the Parwan and Kapisa provinces and finally that between Kapisa and Kabul Province .
