Pang Yŏngung

Pang Yŏng-ung (born July 20, 1942 in Yesan , Ch'ungch'ŏngnam-do ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Pang Yŏng-ung was born on July 20, 1942 in Yesan, South Ch'ungch'ŏng Province . He attended Hwimun High School and made his debut in 1967 when his work The Story of Pullye was published in a magazine. Like many other writers of his generation, he deals with the life of the Korean middle and working class.

Most of his works from the 1960s are set in rural areas, while those from the 1970s have urban settings, but they all portray the lives of the same characters: naive, persistent people who, while unsuccessful, persevere like wildflowers even though their lives are filled with suffering and mishap. Especially his rural characters find it difficult to accept a life other than what they know, which is why they are tragically left behind in a rapidly changing world.
