Pangonius micans is a fly from the family of brakes (Tabanidae).

features

The flies reach a body length of 16.5 to 22 millimeters and have a strong and stocky build. The mesonotum is black in the male and has dense ocher yellow hairs. It's unstripe. In the female it is reddish brown in color and hairy whitish. The abdomen is broad in both sexes. In the males it has a dark brown, glossy basic color, has yellow hairs adjacent to it and has a white triangle in the middle of the second and third tergite . The abdomen of the females has silky hair on the first to fifth tergites on the median, the tergites five to seven are hairy yellow. The suction proboscis has a narrow, pointed suction surface and protrudes clearly towards the front. The feelers have 10 links. The hips ( coxes ) are black, the thighs ( femora ) are black-brown, the splints ( tibia ) and the tarsi are reddish-yellow. The wings are colored pale brown.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is widespread in southern Europe. The adults visit flowers, the larvae live in the ground and feed on plant material.
