Pantaenus
Pantaenus of Alexandria (Greek Pantainos , German also Pantänus ; † approx. 216 ) was a Christian theologian of the 2nd century. He founded the Alexandria Catechist School . This school was one of the first known schools of catechism and was influential in the development of Christian theology. Clemens von Alexandria , his most famous student, describes him as a "Sicilian bee", that is, a hardworking man of Sicilian origin.
Around 185 Pantaenus was active in missionary work and is said to have come as far as India. There he discovered the original Hebrew version of the Gospel of Matthew , which the Apostle Bartholomew once entrusted to the young community during his mission.
