Paolo Bellardito (* in Lentini ; † March 1, 1592 in Malta ) was an Italian clergyman and bishop of Lipari .

Life

He was called on October 17, 1580 to be Bishop of Lipari and the Aeolian Islands . He was ordained bishop on October 28 of the same year by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Giovanni Antonio Facchinetti de Nuce, who later became Pope Innocent IX. ; Co- consecrators were Bartolomeo Ferratini , former Bishop of Amelia , and Giovanni Battista Soriani OCarm , Bishop of Bisceglie . In 1585 he renounced the diocese and was - against his own request - appointed by Pope Sixtus V as inquisitor in Malta on September 15, 1587 . Paolo Bellardito was very dissatisfied with this position and so after a short time a successor was appointed in Angelo Gemmario , who took over the position in 1591, and Paolo Bellardito left in March 1591. However, Gemmario was recalled after just two months for incapacity, and Bellardito returned to Malta. However, Gemmario prevented his predecessor and successor from taking possession of the Inquisitor's palace and did not leave Malta until he was threatened with imprisonment.

Paolo Bellardito died unexpectedly on March 1, 1592.
