Paolo Cannavaro (born June 26, 1981 in Naples ) is a former Italian football player .

Career

He plays in the center-back position. He is the younger brother of Italy's world champion captain Fabio Cannavaro . From 2006 to 2014 Paolo Cannavaro played in Serie A at SSC Napoli , like his brother once did. From 2014 to 2017 he played for the US Sassuolo , where he ended his career at the turn of the year 2017/18.

Cannavaro was regularly used in various Italian youth teams. In the Italian U-21 national team he was set as a regular player from 2002 to 2004 and came to 18 international matches without scoring. For the Squadra Azzurra he has so far been appointed to the squad, but was not used in the international match on October 17, 2007 against South Africa under Roberto Donadoni .

Others

In December 2012, he was banned for 6 months due to his involvement in the Italian betting scandal of the 2011/12 season, for suppressing a report on match-fixing. However, after the appeal hearing in January 2013, the judgment was overturned.
