Paolo Gregori

Paolo Gregori (born September 24, 1970 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian director and screenwriter .

Life

After studying engineering at the FEI University of Sao Bernardo and film studies at the FAAP film school, Paolo Gregori took part in the Art and Media Science program of the University of Konstanz in 1995 . Between 1987 and 1990 he worked as assistant to the director Alfredo Sternheim and the producer Branko Lustig on various feature film projects. From 1988 to 1991 he was involved in the production of more than 20 feature films as an assistant editor and as a film critic for the Brazilian daily Folha da Tarde .

Since 1992 he has been working on his own film projects, initially in short and documentary films. In 1996 he was a guest at the Cinelationo in Tübingen . His last short film " Tropiabbas " (2005) ran a. a. at the festivals of Valencia, Hamburg, Festroia, Toronto, Montevideo and Izmir.

Gregori's first television feature film is Corpo Presente / Presence of the Body (2010). The episode film is about the eccentric life of the middle class in the big city of São Paulo and how the protagonists can alternate their lives as dancers, jockeys, ravers and tattooists with so-called normal everyday life (work, etc.). Gregori's stay in Berlin , together with Ansgar Ahlers , serves to develop the script for a new feature film, which is about the hope of young people in today's Brazil. The focus of the action is a music teacher who immigrates from Germany to a small Brazilian town in the northeast of the country and wants to teach music to children there. In addition, Paolo Gregori plans to keep a video diary about his impressions in Germany, which will then be turned into a video performance installation (The Lenin Park Project) and presented in Brazil.

The feature film version of "Corpo Presente" was shown at the Festival des Cinemas Differents et Experimentaux de Paris, in competition, in December 2012. "Invasores" (together with Marcelo Toledo) and "Em Busca do Ouro" (The search for gold) are his last film projects.

Awards

  • His short film The Dreamers (1996) won the Glauber Rocha Award of the Figueira da Foz International Film Festival, Portugal.
  • He has received numerous grants and grants, including a. from São Paulo Ministry of Culture (Brazil), DAAD (Germany), CAPES (Brazil), Matica Iseljenika Hrvatske (Croatia), Produire au Sud (France) and Programa Ibermedia (Spain).
  • He is co-writer and co-director with Marcelo Toledo of the film " The Beauty and the Birds " (Original: A Bela e os Pássaros, 2001), which was awarded as best short film at the Figueira da Foz Festival 2002.
