Paolo Malanima

Paolo Malanima (* 17th December 1950 ) is an Italian economic historian and director of the delle Consiglio Nazionale Ricerche counting Istituto di Studi sulle Società dell Mediterraneo in Naples . Malanima's main research interests include the long-term developments in economic history, particularly the development of the Italian economy since Classical Antiquity , the history of energy, and world history .

Life

Malanima studied humanities from 1969 to 1973 at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and at the University of Pisa . From 1977 to 1994 he was Professor of Economic History and Economics at the University of Pisa, from 1994 to 2002 at the University of "Magna Graecia" Catanzaro in Calabria .

Since 2002 Malanima has been director of the Istituto di Studi sulle Società dell Mediterraneo (ISSM) in Naples.

Malanima is since 2000 President of the University of Groningen settled European School for Training in Economic and Social Historical Research (ESTER), and since 2009 a member of the Executive Committee of the program Ramses 2, of the Maison de la Méditerranée in Aix-en- Provence is coordinated, as well as the scientific committee of the "Istituto Internazionale di Storia Economica F. Datini".

Since 2010 Malanima belongs to the editorial board of scientific journals Società e Storia and Rivista di Storia Economica on, since 1993 he has been corresponding editor of the International Institute of Social History and Cambridge University Press published the journal International Review of Social History . He is also a member of the Council of Investigaciones de Historia Economica . Between 2003 and 2009 he was a board member of the Italian Society for Economy, Demography and Statistics . Since 2005 he has been editor of the Rapporto sulle economie del Mediterraneo , an annual periodical on the economy of the Mediterranean region. In 2014 he was elected to the Academia Europaea .

Malanima published in Italian and English , in German was published in 2010 with the monograph European economic history is a translation of the 2009 Brill published work Pre-Modern European Economy . He has (co-) edited several compilations .
