The paper Union is a company based in Hamburg , which with about 20% market share of the industry leader in the German securities trading is. The GmbH was created in 1988 through the merger of formerly independent paper wholesalers. Since 2000, Papier Union has been part of the Inapa paper wholesaling group based in Lisbon , which is active throughout Europe .
history
The Papier Union GmbH & Co. KG was established on 1 January 1988 by the merger of the paper wholesaler Brothers Reinhard from Hemer to the wholesalers Richard Klippgen u. Co in Reinbek near Hamburg, Jedek & Ditter in Marktheidenfeld and the Rauch brothers in Talheim . In 1989 the group invested DM 13.3 million in the various locations. With around 7.5 million DM, the majority went to the central warehouse in Hemer, where an extension was built. A year later, the management moved from Frankfurt am Main to Hamburg, where they are still based today.
In February 1993, the state cartel authority of North Rhine-Westphalia imposed legally binding fines on the company and other major companies in the industry for coordinating sales prices in the warehouse business.
In 1998 the corporate form of the company was changed to Papier Union GmbH , two years later the 34 shareholders of the previously independent companies sold their shares to the Inapa Group . With the integration into a pan-European company, the aim was to prepare for the requirements of a pan-European market. Today the Papier Union operates 12 locations in Germany. The federal territory is divided into three regions: North, Central and South.
In 2004 the Federal Cartel Office again imposed fines on the company and other major companies in the industry for illegal price fixing.
In 2005, the matrix organization made up of business areas and a regional structure was replaced by a divisional business area structure. In the same year the pmf Print Media Factoring GmbH was founded.
In 2006, the packaging wholesalers Hennessen + Potthoff GmbH and HTL Verpackung GmbH were acquired by the Papier Union subsidiary Inapa Packaging GmbH, and in 2008 ComPlott - Art Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH was acquired by the Papier Union subsidiary Inapa Viscom and ComPlott was founded - Papier Union GmbH. This bought GraphXPress GmbH in 2009 and FLS Bildsysteme Vertriebs GmbH in 2012. Inapa Packaging GmbH bought the packaging company Realpack GmbH in Wimsheim in 2013.

The Papier Union sees itself as a "service company with a focus on fine paper wholesaling" and divides its offer into the following areas:
Paper : According to its own information, Papier Union has one of the largest ranges of paper in stock. The range of graphic papers with approx. 6,000 specifications includes: coated papers, offset and natural papers, recycled papers and cardboard, writing and watermark papers, image papers and cardboard, colored and transparent papers, cardboard and Chromo cardboard, adhesive paper and adhesive labels, carbonless papers.
Envelopes and mailers : As a delivery partner, Papier Union offers everything to do with envelopes from a single source. Many other formats, qualities and special features are available on request.
Printing accessories : Papier Union offers an extensive range of printing plates, printing blankets, inks and varnishes as well as cleaning agents and auxiliary materials. Scale and pantone colors are individually mixed in the in-house color mixing system.
Screen printing & UV offset : Polypropylene, rigid PVC, polycarbonate, self-adhesive and adhesive foils or synthetic printing materials are part of the range of media for screen printing and UV offset.
Visual communication : In addition to an extensive range of hardware and software as well as consumables for large format printing (e.g. display systems and copier rolls), the subsidiary ComPlott Papier Union offers technical support services from its own technicians.
Packaging : Standard packaging materials or individual packaging solutions are offered by Inapa Packaging GmbH, headquartered in Hamburg.
Logistics : Papier Union's Print Media Logistics offers a logistics network for the entire paper / print sector. In addition to a nationwide 24/48 hour general cargo network, this includes part / full loads, international transport and warehousing services. Print Media Logistik was founded with its own logistics network in 1999 as a supplement to the classic, purely internal company traffic. Print Media Logistik is represented nationwide at five locations with decentralized customer service and its own scheduling. The headquarters are in Hamburg.
According to its own information, the company sells approx. 470,000 t of paper with approx. 9500 articles.
