Paper cut

Paper cut on a fingertip

A paper cut is a cut caused by the sharp edges of a sheet of paper or other thin material. These are small, weakly bleeding wounds that rarely occur when there is "skin contact" with sharp edges such as gripping movements and consequently usually occur in the hand area of  the injured person  - especially on a finger or fingertip - or rubberized ones when licked Envelopes on the tip of the tongue.

They are among the mechanically created wounds. Paper cuts are considered to be comparatively painful in view of their small size . This sensation of pain is caused by the fact that in the case of the superficial injury the nerves are usually not cut, but only "cut", and the sharp edge of the paper "tears" rather than cuts the skin layers . In addition, the hands and in particular the fingers contain a relatively large number of particularly sensitive pain receptors .

reception

The term paper cut is occasionally used to describe a painful process in the sense of the phrase "small cause, big effect" or its reflection. For example, an English-language song from the 2009 album Battlefield by the US singer Jordin Sparks , in which she celebrates a past love, bears the title Papercut , and the chorus of the song is: “I'm okay , I'll survive. I only think about you half the time. [...] It was only a paper cut. It's only a paper cut, a paper cut. "
