Paprotzaner ironworks

The Paprotzaner ironworks is a closed ironworks in the Upper Silesian town of Tichau (Polish: Tychy ).

The ironworks was built in 1703 by Balthasar von Promnitz in the village of the same name Paprotzan (Polish: Paprocany ) in the then Principality of Pless . In 1775 it was expanded on behalf of Friedrich Erdmann and named after his son Ludwig . Three years later, August Kiss, father of the sculptor of the same name , August Kiss , was appointed as its manager. In 1796 the Paprotzaner See was laid out for the needs of the ironworks. In 1835, John Baildon modernized the facility. However, the first steam engine was not put into operation until 1856. In 1878 the ironworks was finally shut down.
