Between 1986 and 1992 the Paprotzaner See underwent extensive recultivation. A diverse marsh landscape has emerged on its southern bank, in which gray herons , black-headed gulls , swans , black terns and mallards, among others , settle. The basin itself is home to perch , pike , eel , crucian carp , tench and carp .

Trivia
The German military had maintained a battery with almost one hundred soldiers stationed on Lake Paprotzaner See since 1918 . In the course of the uprisings in Upper Silesia , during the night of August 16-17, 1919, Upper Silesian rebels captured the facility. The main reason was the killing of local strikers by German officials the day before. When the battery was captured, all German soldiers were captured and the military material confiscated.
