Paradise Iceland Lighthouse is the oldest and most famous lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) to the Bahamas . It stands on Paradise Island and marks the northwest entrance to the port of Nassau .
description
The round tower was built from masonry from 1816 to 1817 on the western foothills of Hog Island (since 1959 Paradise Island) . In September 1817, the beacon went into operation as the Hog Island Lighthouse. The identifier consists of a white flash with a return of five seconds (Fl.W.5s). In dangerous conditions for approaching the port, a red flash is shown instead (Fl.R.5s).
Paradise Island Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the West Indies . But its very existence is also in jeopardy, as it is in a deplorable condition and the local authorities accuse each other of neglect.
