Parapoynx nivalis is a butterfly from the family of Crambiden ( Crambidae ). The specific epithet nivalis (= snow white) refers to the white color of the wings.

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 16 to 17 millimeters for the males and 18 to 22 millimeters for the females. The forewings are white and have a yellow-brown proximal line, which bears an elongated black spot in the upper third. The discocellular spot is divided into two black spots that lie one above the other. The distal line is yellow-brown and curved. The submarginal line is yellow-brown and jagged towards the outer edge of the wing. The submarginal area is pale yellow-brown with a dark basal border. The hind wings are white and have a yellow-brown proximal line. The yellow-brown distal line is jagged towards the outer edge of the wing and the pale yellow-brown submarginal area has a dark inner edge.

The genital armature of the males is relatively small. The uncus is comparatively long and pointed. The gnathos is not toothed. The blades have no special features and are not widened distally. The Juxta is oval. The phallus is very narrow distally . The ejaculatory bulb attaches to the base.

In females, the oviscapter is relatively short. Basally it has slightly dilated apophyses. The colliculum is wide. The corpus bursae is oval, the signum consists of two long, roughened, narrow ridges that are surrounded by a slightly sclerotized area.

distribution

Parapoynx nivalis is native to Central and Eastern Europe. The distribution area extends from Germany to Ukraine and from Poland to Bulgaria . The most westerly localities are in East Germany, but there the species only appears sporadically. Outside of Europe, the species was found in Kazakhstan ( Oral , Emba ). A record from Russia ( Kazan ) is based on an incorrect determination and is to be assigned to the species Phlyctaenia perlucidalis .

biology

The moths fly from May to July, according to other information also until August and in two generations until September. The pre-imaginal stages are so far unknown, they probably live aquatic.
