Parapoynx is a genus of butterflies from the family Crambidae ( Crambidae ).

features

There are ocelles on the head of the moth . In the males, the underside of the antennae has short eyelashes. Each antenna segment is thickened with scales distally on the upper side ; this thickening is strongest at the tip of the antennae. The maxillary palps are strong and enlarged more or less like a brush by scales. The labial palps have a moderately scaled middle segment and a long, slender, tapering end segment. The trunk is comparatively short and is hidden. The spur formula is 0-2-4. An epiphysis is present. The veins R 2 to R 4 are petiolate on the forewings. M 1 arises on the cross-artery closer to R 5 than to M 2 , CuP is absent. On the hind wings, the M 1 core is cross- connected to the SC + R 1 + RS stem . In females, the frenulum consists of several bristles. The valves can have a poorly developed anellifer, but usually no specializations are pronounced. Only in the non-European species Parapoynx ussuriensis Rebel , 1910 and Parapoynx longialata Yoshiyasu , 1983 is a bristly, finger-shaped appendage formed on the costal edge of the valves. The female genital armature has a relatively long oviscapter , a pronounced colliculum and a greatly elongated ductus bursae . On the corpus bursae there is a pair of signs, which consists of two parallel, strongly sclerotized and differently long spots of different thickness. The segments of the caterpillars are provided with groups of branched tracheal gills . The caudal part of the prothoracic shield is slightly thickened.

biology

The caterpillars live aquatically in a shelter made from plant parts, in an enclosure or completely unprotected. If necessary, the caterpillars can supply themselves with oxygen-rich water through oscillating movements of the entire body. They pupate in a waterproof, elongated cocoon . The doll's legs are slightly shorter than the abdomen .

distribution

The representatives of the genus are native to all main faun regions.
