Empidonax flaviventris, called Moucherolle à ventre jaune in Québec, a representative of the tyrants there . Moucherons are fly or insect catchers in general, a yellow belly is characteristic of this species.

The Parc national des Grands-Jardins ( French for "National Park of the Great Gardens") is one of the current 27 national parks in the Canadian province of Québec . There a parc national corresponds to what is called a provincial park in the other provinces . The park is operated by Sépaq ( French Société des établissements de plein air du Québec or English Society of outdoor recreation establishments of Quebec ).

It has an area of 310 km² and is part of the Charlevoix Biosphere Reserve . Established in 1981, the park protects unusual subarctic vegetation, a remnant of the last ice age . However, a fire in 1999 destroyed 4,500 hectares of forest. The park has the most humid spruce and lichen forests in America.

The area was inhabited by forest caribou until the early 20th century, but they fell victim to hunting. Between 1969 and 1972 80 animals of this species were reintroduced and today there is a small herd of around 150 animals.

From 1995 to 1998 the wolf populations in the region around the provincial capital were examined, including the Grands-Jardins-Park. Only here and in the protected areas Parc national d'Aiguebelle (268 km²), de la Mauricie (544 km²), Jacques-Cartier (670 km²), Mont-Tremblant (1510 km²), Monts-Valin (153 km²) and Saguenay ( 283 km²) and the reserve de chasse du parc de la Gatineau (150 km²), wolves may not be hunted in the province. In 2003 it was only protected over an area of around 4000 km².
