Park Che-ch'ŏn (born March 23, 1945 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean poet .
Life
Park Che-ch'ŏn was born on March 23, 1945 in Seoul , South Korea . His stage name is Pang San-jae ( 방 산재 芳 山 齋 ). He graduated from Dongguk University with a degree in Korean literature and made his poet debut in 1966. He worked as editor-in-chief for various publishing houses, including Sint'aeyang Verlag ( 신태양 사 ) and Ost-West Kultur-Verlag ( 동서 문화사 ), and was a member of the literary circle Geist der Lyrik (시정신). In 1994 he began to work for the Literatur Akademie Verlag (문학 아카데미 출판사) and in 1995 he was involved in the establishment of the magazine " Literatur Akademie " (문학 아카데미), for which he worked as an editor and publisher. He currently teaches creative writing at Kyŏnggi University .
His first collection of poems, Poems of the Firstborn (장자 시), published in 1975, was not entirely successful in maintaining poetic intensity, despite rhetorical adornments and sensual language. But even if he could not attain maturity in his first work, it becomes evident in his second and third collection of poems that he strives for lyrical maturity by turning away from flowery language to solemnly and with great care about the Buddhist world of virtue to philosophize.
His works In the Temple with the Thousand Moons (달 은 즈믄 가람 에) and Further Than Darkness (어둠 보다 멀리) show greater depth and breadth in language and worldview. In his latest collection of poems, SF-Sympathie (SF 교감), he deals with the crisis in which poetry and literary art find themselves as a result of the spread of visual media in the 20th century. Park's lyrical ideas evolved well beyond just looking at the self, to see the individual as part of a large group. With a far-reaching view of the world, he continues his search for the meaning of poetry in the modern world.
