history
The distillery was founded in 1894 by the Parkmore Distillery Co. to produce malt whiskey . Around 1900 James Watson & Co. took over the company, which in turn was taken over by John Dewar & Sons in 1923 . In 1925 the distillery came into the hands of Distillers Company Ltd. ( DCL ) and finally in 1930 to Scottish Malt Distillers ( SMD ), which finally ceased operations in 1931. The warehouses were then used even longer. Many of the buildings of the old Parkmore distillery still exist today and it is considered the best preserved distillery from the whiskey boom towards the end of the Victorian era .
