Glendullan is a distillery for whiskey in Dufftown in the county of Aberdeenshire in the Scottish Highlands.
history
The distillery was founded in 1897 as the seventh distillery in the Dufftown area in the immediate vicinity of Glenfiddich and Balvenie , in order to guarantee a product quality corresponding to this (two more distilleries were later founded, today six producers are still active in the area). In 1919 Williams joined the Greenlees Brothers, which were then part of Alexander & MacDonald. The distillery was closed between 1940 and 1947. In 1962 the distillery was completely renovated. 1970–1971, a new building with six stills was built right next to the old distillery . From 1972, both systems initially produced; In 1985 the old one was closed. The distillery cannot be visited; Exceptions are only possible as part of the “Spirit of Speyside Whiskey Festival”.
production
The malt for Glendullan comes from the United Distillers malthouses in Burghead, Roseisle and Muir of Ord . Production takes place with a mash tun ( mash tun ) of 12 tons and eight fermentation vats ( wash backs ) of 65,000 liters each made of larch wood . The distillery is now one of Diageo's largest. It has an annual capacity of 3,700,000 liters of pure alcohol. Glendullan is relatively unknown as a single malt whiskey . 97 percent of the production is used for blended whiskeys .

Trivia
- Allegedly, the Williams distillery was founded only because an attempt to buy the Glenfiddich and Balvenie distilleries failed.
- In 1902, Glendullan became famous for being his favorite whiskey by King Edward VII .
- Strictly speaking, the whiskey produced from 1972 to 1985 is not a single, but a vatted malt .
