Parodia ayopayana is a species of plant in the genus Parodia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The epithet of the species refers to the place where the species was found, the Bolivian province of Ayopaya .

Parodia ayopayana grows individually or sprouting with spherical to short cylindrical, fresh green shoots that reach heights of 6 to 8 centimeters and diameters of 6 to 9 centimeters. The approximately 11 ribs, which are up to 2 centimeters high, are clearly humped and covered with large, very woolly hairy areoles . The mostly 4 light brown to whitish central thorns are subpulate , straight and spread out. They are 3 to 3.5 inches long. The 6 to 11 whitish radial spines are needle-like and 1.5 to 2 centimeters long.
The orange-yellow flowers are up to 3 inches long. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with dense, white to orange-colored wool. The elongated fruits are red and contain small, dull black, spherical, humped seeds .
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Parodia ayopayana is common in Bolivia in the departments of Cochabamba and La Paz in dry valleys at altitudes of 2500 to 3000 meters.
It was first described in 1951 by Martín Cárdenas . Synonyms are the following described species: Parodia buxbaumiana F.H. Brandt (1975) and Parodia cotacajensis F.H. Brandt (1981).
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
