Parodia carambeiensis is a species of the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet carambeiensis refers to the occurrence of the species near the Brazilian community of Carambeí .

description

Parodia carambeiensis initially grows individually and then sprouts from the base. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 10 centimeters and a diameter of 8 centimeters. The top of the shoot is woolly. The twelve to 14 narrow and sharp-edged ribs are up to 1 centimeter high and humped above the oval areoles covered with thick white wool . The black to grayish brown thorns emerging from the areoles have a darker tip. The mostly four crossed central spines have lengths of 2 to 3 centimeters. The six to eight radial spines lie on the shoot surface and are up to 2 centimeters long.

The slightly bell-shaped pale yellow flowers reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters and are just as long. Your pericarpel is covered with small scales, white wool and a few bristles. The scar is purple. The reddish fruits , dry when ripe, tear open. They are up to 1.2 inches long and covered with some wool and a few bristles. The fruits contain hatchet-shaped, cloudy black seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia carambeiensis is widespread in the Brazilian state of Paraná in the north of Ponta Grossa .

The first description as Notocactus carambeiensis by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo was published in 1973. Andreas Hofacker placed the species in the genus Parodia in 1987 . Nomenclatory synonyms are Notocactus villa-velhensis var. Carambeiensis (Buining & Brederoo) N. Gerloff (1990, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4) and Peronocactus carambeiensis (Buining & Brederoo) Doweld (1999, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
