Parodia rudibuenekeri is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rudibuenekeri honors Rudi W. Büneker, a Brazilian cactus collector of German descent.

description

Parodia rudibuenekeri grows singly to forming groups. The dark green to blue-green or gray-green, spherical to cylindrical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 20 centimeters and a diameter of 5 centimeters. The 20 to 30 rounded ribs are up to 5 millimeters high. The circular areoles on them are white. The white, non-piercing thorns are flexible and bristle-like. The four central spines have a length of up to 3.5 centimeters. The 25 to 30 radial spines are 1.5 to 2 inches long.

The light yellow flowers reach a diameter of 3 to 3.5 centimeters and lengths of 2.5 to 3 centimeters. The scars are light yellow. The spherical, densely hairy white woolly fruits have a diameter of about 0.5 centimeters. The fruits contain helmet-shaped, brown seeds 0.7 millimeters long and 0.5 millimeters wide, which are humped.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Parodia rudibuenekeri is common in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul .

The first description as Notocactus rudibuenekeri by Wolf Rainer Abraham was published in 1988. Andreas Hofacker and Pierre Josef Braun placed the species in the genus Parodia in 1998 . Another nomenclature synonym is Peronocactus rudibuenekeri (WRAbraham) Doweld (1999, incorrect name ICBN -Article 11.4).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
