Parodia rutilans is a species of plant in the genus Parodia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet rutilans comes from Latin , means 'reddish orange' and refers to the color of the thorns.

description

Parodia rutilans usually grows individually. The cloudy green to bright green spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of growth of up to 15 centimeters. The 16 to 24 almost vertical to slightly spiral ribs have small chin-like projections. The large areoles on it are initially densely covered with white wool, later they are less covered with wool. The one or two light reddish brown central spines stand straight or are directed slightly downwards and have lengths of 0.7 to 2.5 centimeters. The lower one is stronger. The 14 to 16 laterally spreading white to yellowish or gray radial spines have a darker tip and are up to 0.5 centimeters long.

The pink to carmine red flowers are yellowish white in the lower area. They reach lengths of 3 to 4 centimeters and diameters of up to 6 centimeters. Their pericarpels and tube are covered with white wool and reddish brown bristles. The scars are dark purple. The 1.5 to 2 cm long fruits tear open at their base and are covered in the upper part with black bristles and gray hair. They contain helmet-shaped to bell-shaped, dull brown seeds up to 1 millimeter in length.

Distribution and systematics
