Coordinates: 28 ° 4 ′ S , 145 ° 41 ′ E The Shire of Paroo is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 47,613 km² and has about 1640 inhabitants.
geography
The Shire is located in the south of the state on the border with New South Wales about 720 km west of the capital Brisbane .
The largest town and administrative seat of the LGA is Cunnamulla with about 1000 inhabitants. Other localities are Barringun, Coongoola, Cunnamulla, Cuttaburra, Eulo , Humeburn, Hungerford, Jobs Gate, Linden, Nebine, Noorama, Tuen, Widgeegoara, Wyandra and Yowah .
history
After the exploration in the 1950s, the settlement of the area began hesitantly, especially around the water point at what is now Cunnamulla. In 1879 the local administration of the Paroo Shire was established.

The Paroo Shire Council has five members. The Mayor and four other Councilors are elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
