The Parti progressiste national (PPN) was a liberal political party in Switzerland . It existed from 1918 to 1981 and was only active in the canton of Neuchâtel .

history

After the national strike of November 1918, various vigilante groups were formed in the canton of Neuchâtel , supported by industrialists, farmers and freelancers. These included the Ligue ordre et liberté (“League of Order and Freedom”) in Le Locle and the Union hélvetique (“Helvetic Union”) in La Chaux-de-Fonds . In 1919 both groups merged to form the PPN, the aim of which was to unite liberals and radical liberals . She could only achieve this goal in Le Locle, where she was the only bourgeois force. The PPN remained cantonal as a whole, however, was limited to its home country in the Neuchâtel Jura and played no role in the canton's capital .

The PPN was represented in the Neuchâtel State Council from 1919 to 1949 by Edgar Renaud , and from 1922 to 1925 by Ernest Strahm . It achieved its highest share of the vote in 1922 with 18 out of 107 seats in the Grand Council , after which it usually held around ten seats. From 1922 to 1931, the PPN also had Arnold Bolle as a representative in the National Council . In 1981 it merged with the Liberal Party , which in turn became part of the FDP in 2009.
