The Partito Comunista Sammarinese (PCS) was the Communist Party of San Marino . It existed from 1941 to 1990. A communist party section had existed in San Marino since 1921 as a split from the Partito Socialista Sammarinese . The Italian exile Vittorio Ambrosini founded the San Marinese section of the Communist Party of Italy ('Sezione di San Marino del Partito Comunista d'Italia) together with locals

After returning from exile, a group led by Ermenegildo Gasperoni founded the PCS on July 7, 1941. In the first parliamentary elections after the end of fascism in San Marino in 1943, the communists ran together with other political currents in a unified list that won all 60 parliamentary seats. In the elections in 1945 and 1949, the PCS ran together with other left parties as the Comitato della Libertà (CdL) unified list . The left won an absolute majority in both elections and formed the government. In the 1951 elections, the PCS and the Socialists (PSS) competed separately for the first time. The Christian Democrats ( PDCS ) became the strongest party, but the PCS and PSS together had an absolute majority and formed the government. The 1954 elections brought the left-wing coalition votes and the PCS-PSS coalition continued. In April 1957, the Partito Socialista Democratico Indipendente Sammarinese (PSDIL) split from the PSS, which led to a stalemate in parliament. When another member of the PCS list switched to the PDCS, a crisis broke out that resulted in disputes similar to civil war .

At the end of the crisis, a new coalition consisting of PDCS, PSDIS and former members of the PCS and PSS was formed. educated. Coalitions led by the Christian Democrats ruled the country until 1978. After the parliamentary elections in 1978, a coalition of PCS, PSS and the Partitio Socialista Unitario (PSU) split off from the PSDIS. This coalition was replaced in 1986 by an alliance of Christian Democrats (PDCS) and Communists (PCS), which provided the government until 1992. In 1990 the PCS swore by communism and renamed itself Partito Progressista Democratico Sammarinese , from which in turn the Partito dei Democratici (PdD) emerged. The old left wing of the party then split off and in 1992 founded the Rifondazione Comunista Sammarinese (“New Communist Foundation San Marino”). The PdD merged with various smaller socialist parties in 2005 in the Partito dei Socialisti e dei Democratici (PSD). The RCS formed the United Left (Sinistra Unita) with other left-wing groups .

Her youth organization, the Federazione Giovanile Comunista San Marino (FGCSM), was a member of the World Federation of Democratic Youth . The party organ of the PCS was the newspaper La Scintilla ("The Spark").
