The Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese ( PDCS ) is the Christian Democratic Party of San Marino . It is currently led by Gian Carlo Venturini .

The party was founded on April 9, 1948 as a counterpart to the Italian Democrazia Cristiana . Until 1957, socialists and communists jointly formed the government, while Christian democrats, social democrats and independents were in opposition. In 1957 the PDCS formed a coalition with the PSDIS , this alliance ruled until 1973. Until 1974 the PDCS ruled together with the MLS and the Partito Socialista Sammarinese from 1974 to 1978 together with the PSS. From 1978 to 1986 a socialist-communist coalition ruled again. After the 1986 elections, Christian Democrats and Communists agreed on a common government and formed a coalition for six years. From 1992 to 2006 the PDCS and PSS and at times other small parties formed the government.

In the parliamentary elections on June 4, 2006, the PDCS lost over 8 percentage points compared to the previous election in 2001, but again became the strongest force with 32.9% and received 21 of the 60 seats. Nevertheless, she had to rejoin the opposition to the Alleanza Popolare dei Democratici Sammarinesi per la Repubblica alliance of social democrats , leftists and liberals. In the 2008 elections, the PDCS itself was able to gain slightly, won an absolute majority of the seats with the “Pact for San Marino” led by it and re-established the government. In 2012 the electoral alliance Bene Commune, led by the PDCS, won the parliamentary elections. In the elections at the end of 2016, the alliance San Marino prima di tutto, to which the PDCS belonged, was defeated in the runoff election.
