Pascal Mariini (born November 28, 1960 in Le Cannet ) is a former French football player .

Career

In his youth, Mariini played for several clubs in his home region around Cannes before he was accepted into the national training center for footballers INF Vichy in 1979. With the local team he succeeded in 1980 winning the Coupe Gambardella ; In the same year, at the age of 19, he signed his first professional contract with SEC Bastia . With the Corsican club he entered the top French league, even if he did not initially get beyond a role as a supplementary player. Accordingly, he was not on the pitch when the team achieved a 2-1 win against AS Saint-Étienne in the 1981 cup final . He then became a regular player for a season before being relegated to his old position.

When Bastia made numerous signings in 1983, the player decided to move and signed with the second division club RC Besançon . At Besançon he was set as a central striker and was able to score 14 goals in his first season and 18 in his second after a moderate number of goals; Although he could not bring the club close to the promotion places, but he aroused the interest of numerous first division clubs and returned to the top division in 1985 when he signed with Stade Brest . In Brest's offensive, he played alongside Gérard Buscher ; Both attackers scored 14 goals each in the course of the 1985/86 season and were seventh on the top scorer list, but came with the team on the verge of relegation. Although Mariini personally did not get more than seven goals in the following season, he made the leap to the top half of the table with the team; However, this situation also meant that he had to leave Brest in 1987 due to the distrust of those responsible.

In the same year the professional signed with the first division promoted Chamois Niort , whose direct relegation in 1988 he could not prevent. On loan, he returned the same year to his former club, renamed SC Bastia, which had meanwhile also been relegated to the second division. At Bastia, he ran on the side of the Senegalese Amara Traoré and spent a successful year in Corsica with twelve goals in 25 games; after that he did not move back to Niort, but signed with the second division club FC Martigues . He scored only three goals and left the club again in 1990 to go to league rivals Gazélec FC Ajaccio in Corsica. In 1991 Mariini ended his professional career at the age of 30 after 144 first division games with 35 goals and 140 second division games with 53 goals. He played another year as an amateur in Corsica and then worked for the municipality of Ghisonaccia ; As a part-time job he worked for the volunteer fire brigade and later made fire fighting on Corsica his main job.
