Pasites maculatus is a bee from the kind of Pasites , within the family of Apidae . The species is included in Switzerland's Red List of Endangered Species as critically endangered (Category 2).

features

The bees reach a body length of 7 to 8 millimeters. Their abdomen, like their legs, is predominantly red and has broad, white patches of hair on the tergites . They are clearly separated from each other on all segments.

Occurrence

The species is distributed from North Africa across Central Europe to Central Asia. It is absent in Germany, in Switzerland it is known from the Valais. In Austria she was in Burgenland and Lower Austria is missing.

Way of life

The flight time is between May and July. The females lay the u-shaped eggs in nests of nomia (rail bees), where the larvae live as kleptoparasites .
