Pasquale Testini

Pasquale Testini (born May 17, 1924 in Ruvo di Puglia , † October 17, 1989 in Rome ) was an Italian Christian archaeologist .

Life

He studied Christian archeology at the University of Rome and received the same chair in 1948. In 1951 he moved to the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana . After ten years of study, he published the handbook on Christian archeology, which is still relevant today. He later also taught at La Sapienza University , focusing on early Christian monuments. In 1952 he identified the crypt of Ampliato in the Catacombs of Domitilla and ten years later began an initiation course in Christian antiquities at the Pontifical Institute for Archeology. Between 1959 and 1962 he carried out excavations in the area of ​​the church and the Ramat Rachel monastery in Israel.
