Pat Evison

Dame Helen June Patricia Evison , DBE , (born June 2, 1924 in Dunedin , New Zealand , better known as Pat Evison , † May 30, 2010 ) was a New Zealand actress . In Germany she became known for her role as Violet Carnegie in the series Die fiegen Ärzte .

Life

Helen Evison attended a school in Masterton and then went to Victoria University of Wellington to take up a liberal arts degree. She continued this at the University of Auckland and the Teacher's Training College . She was one of the first New Zealanders to receive a scholarship to study directing at London's Old Vic Theater . After graduating, she worked as an assistant director at the same theater and also recorded a few radio plays before returning to New Zealand to work as a freelance director. During this time she was hired as an actress at the Downstage Theater in Wellington. She appeared on television for the first time in a small role in the television game All earth to love . This was followed by occasional guest appearances in the comedy series In View of the Circumstances . In 1971 Evison played the role, written especially for her, of shopkeeper Phyllis Telford in the television series Pukemanu . According to Evison's self-testimony in her autobiography ( Happy Days in Muckle Flugga ), this role changed her life, as she gained national fame under the nickname Mrs. Pukemanu . In the successful Australian television series The Flying Doctors , she finally played the role of an idiosyncratic shopkeeper again. Pat Evison was married and has three children.

Awards

In 1979, Evison won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Supporting Actress for the film Tim, Can This Be Love? excellent. There she played the mother of Tim Melville , played by Mel Gibson , who in turn was named Best Actor. In 1980, Queen Elizabeth II awarded her the title of lady for her services to the theater. In 1993 she was also appointed Dame Commander for her social and professional commitment .
