Pat Patrick
Pat Patrick (actually Laurdine K. Patrick ; born November 23, 1929 in East Moline , Illinois ; † December 31, 1991 there ) was an American jazz saxophonist.
Patrick learned the piano, trumpet and drums as a child before switching to the saxophone. At Du Sable High School in Chicago he first met John Gilmore , with whom he later worked under Sun Ra , also in 1956 on Super-Sonic Jazz and in 1959 on Jazz in Silhouette . He participated in the 1961 Africa / Brass session with John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy , performed with Duke Ellington and was a member of Thelonious Monks Quartet around 1970 . In 1974 he recorded with the Jazz Composer's Orchestra . However, he was best known as a member of Sun Ras Arkestra , of which he was a member from 1954 until his death.
His son is the politician Deval Patrick , who was governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015 .
