Patrice Rognon

Patrice Rognon (born December 29, 1966 ) is a former French judoka who was third in the 1991 European Championship.

Athletic career

Patrice Rognon mostly competed in the heavyweight division or in the open class. In 1990 he was second in the heavyweight division at the military world championships, and at the end of 1990 he took third place at the world championships for students. At the French Championships in 1991, he finished third in the heavyweight division behind David Douillet and Georges Mathonnet . At the European Championships in Prague in 1991 , he entered the open class. After losing to the Italian Stefano Venturelli early on , he fought his way through the hope round to fight for a bronze medal, which he won against the Austrian Josef Schmöller . A month and a half later he reached the heavyweight final at the Mediterranean Games in Panhellenios, he received the silver medal behind the Egyptian Mohamed Ali Rashwan .

In 1993 Rognon won his first French championship title. In 1994 he took third place at the Tournoi de Paris . In September 1994 he won the team world title with the French team. In 1997 he was French champion for the second time. In 1998 he took seventh place in the open class at the European Championships in Oviedo . The following year he reached seventh place in the open class at the World Championships in Birmingham .
