David Douillet (born February 17, 1969 in Rouen , France ) is a former French judoka and current politician.

He achieved his first major success by winning the bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. In 1993 he became the first French heavyweight world champion in Hamilton , Canada . He was able to defend this title in 1995 in Chiba , Japan . In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta he was finally Olympic champion in heavyweight judo. Despite a motorcycle accident in late 1996, he was able to defend his world championship title in Bercy , France , in 1997 and was again Olympic champion in Sydney in 2000 . In 1995 and 2000 he was voted France's Sportsman of the Year (“ Champion des champions ”) by the sports newspaper L'Équipe .

Close to the Chirac couple, he volunteered as a godfather for the Pièces jaunes (yellow coins) campaign initiated by Bernadette Chirac . In July 2011 he was appointed State Secretary for the French Abroad . From September 26, 2011 to May 15, he was Minister of Sport in the Cabinet of Prime Minister François Fillon .
