Patricia Bentancur

Patricia Bentancur (born January 31, 1963 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan artist and curator .

education

Bentancur, who received her training at the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad de la República , the Club de Grabado , at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (ENBA) and in workshops by Guillermo Fernández and Juan Storm , also attended the École des Beaux in 1986 -Artes de Paris . In the following two years she continued her studies at the Madrid Escuela Superior de Arquitectura . In 1988 she also studied at the Universidad Internacional de Menéndez y Pelayo .

Activity as an artist and curator

Since 1985, Bentan course has participated in numerous national and international joint exhibitions. She exhibited in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Chile, France, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland and a few other countries. From 1983 to 1988 she held various solo exhibitions in Montevideo , Lima and Madrid.

Bentancur, holder of a Fulbright Research Fellowship from 1996 to 1998, worked at the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the New Museum of Contemporary Arts , among others . She was also responsible as curator of more than 200 exhibitions, including the Video Arte Uruguayo section of the contemporary art market in Madrid (ARCO) in 1990 and 1991. She was also in this role from 1999 to 2000 at Montevideo, Lima , Asunción , Havana and Santo Domingo , the traveling exhibition of Antoni Muntadas . She also worked as a curator at various exhibitions in Uruguayan and international museums. In 2009 she was Uruguay's representative at the Biennale di Venezia and in 2012 she is director of exhibitions and new media at the Spanish Cultural Center (CCE) in Montevideo, as well as, together with Paz Guevara and Alfons Hug , curator of the International Biennale of Montevideo.

Bentancur is Vice-President of the Asociación Uruguaya de Criticos de Arte (AUCA), member of AICA and founding member of Fundación de Arte Contemporáneo de Montevideo (FAC).
