Antoni Muntadas
Antoni Muntadas (* 1942 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish -American multimedia and installation artist .
life and work
Antoni Muntadas studied from 1959 to 1962 at the University of Barcelona and from 1963 to 1967 at the Escola Tècnica Superior d'Enginyeria Industrial de Barcelona , Barcelona. He completed his studies with a master’s degree and has lived in New York since 1971. Antoni Muntadas was visiting professor at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , the University of California, San Diego , the San Francisco Art Institute , the Cooper Union , the Universidade de São Paulo and the Universidad de Buenos Aires .
From 1990 to 2014 Muntadas was Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Instituto Universitario de Arquitectura del Veneto in Venice.
The On Translation series is a series of works that began in 1995 and is based on current conventions and cross-cultural communication. It includes a wide range of multimedia installations, consisting of video, photos and texts.
- The 1997 Bank shows how long it takes to run out of $ 1000 due to currency exchanges and fees.
- The File Room from 1994, an interactive online archive, documents hundreds of cases of censorship, including from the wife of an American dictator who banned Paul Simon's song “Cecilia”.
