Patrick Gill (physicist)
Patrick Gill is a British physicist in the field of metrology .
Gill received the DPhil from Oxford University and went to the National Physical Laboratory in 1975 . One of his main research areas is the development of ion traps for optical frequency standards. These have the potential to redefine the SI unit of the second .
He was visiting professor at Oxford and Imperial College London .
